Alta IF won both matches during the Frienship City Football Tournament. On Friday's opening game AC Oulu got defeted by the Alta team by 0-1. On Sunday it was RoPS's turn to see Alta IF cruising to the victory with 1-2 scoreline.
At this time of the season Alta IF seemed to have the most working pernament at present out of the participating teams. AC Oulu controlled the ball throughout the tournament matches, but the team clearly needs more firepower up front. RoPS had several new players, which showed on the pitch.
The third tournament day schedule was changed as Alta IF needed to hit to road as soon as possible. So, it was the main event of the day that started the matches on Sunday. Maybe the most entertaining match of the tournament ended 1-2 for Alta IF, who dominated especially the second half of the match. Antti Peura scored for RoPS and Jesper Törnqvist and Svein Ola Thomassen were the goal scorers for Alta IF. Alta IF's Törnqvist was the MoM for scoring one and dominating in defense.
The second match of the day was a match between local OPS-j and Bodens BK. The visitors had found their shooting boots during the night as they scored 8 goals. OPS-j found the net only once. Both teams seemed a bit tired after their previous games on Saturday, but Bodens BK left no questions about which was the better team on the pitch. Hat-trick by BBK's Johan Nyberg earned him the MoM award.
The final match of the day was a derby between JS Hercules and OPS A-youth team. The first half of the match was controlled more by the OPS team, but at the end it was the hosts who took the game confortably 5-1. Tommi Päkkilä and Matti Verronen both scored two goals and Ville Vesanen one for JS Hercules. OPS only goal was scored by Tomi Meriäinen. Out of three JS Hercules test players (Gjoca, Benechye and Mady), Karang Mady shone the most. The right fullback played well for the team, was a consistant performer, made no mistakes and won all his battles on the field.
All in all, the tournament was a real succes. Good games were played and important relations founded between the teams. Hopefully next year we will see some new teams in Oulu, maybe from Siofok, Leverkusen, Odenssa or Halle, all being Oulu's friendship cities.
A big thanks goes to the fans, teams and all the other who made this tournament possible! Go Herkku!
